Shahi Tukda - Happy Rakshabandhan

And the festive season has started once again in full swing with the festival of Rakhi. This time of the year I have to say is the best- family, friends, quality time, shopping, dressing up and ofcourse lots of food.

For a long time now, dessert area has been taken over by me in my house for every occasion. But to tell you the truth, it becomes tough to come up with new stuff every-time which your entire family would like to eat- there are so many specifications from each person and you want to make everyone happy. That's what the main purpose of any dessert is- 'to make you happy'!

So, I decided to make these very simple yet really tasty Shahi Tukda, with a twist. This one is made with custard. Hehe. That's the twist(or rather the cheat), to use simple custard instead of the rabri that is generally used.

Below are given 6 easy steps to make a this super tasty Indian dessert.

Do try it out and let me know in comments if you have any suggestions or ideas. The recipe with ingredients is given below.

SHAHI TUKDA with CUSTARD

INGREDIENTS

Custard powder (I used Tops Strawberry flavour, choose your favourite)           4 tbsp
Milk (toned or full cream as per your preference)                                                1/2 litre
Bread (white/brown any)                                                                                      8-10 pieces
Powdered Sugar                                                                                              4-5 tbsp(more as per taste)
Nuts- Almonds, Cashews, Walnuts                                                                        10-12
Dark chocolate shredded(optional)                                                                       2 tbsp

METHOD

1) Take half a glass of hot milk and mix the custard powder in it. Avoid any lumps.
2) Bring to boil the rest of the milk in a saucepan and and add the powdered sugar.
3) Now add the custard milk into this and cook for about 3-4 minutes.
4) Chill in fridge for 30 min.
5) Cut the bread into small triangles. (One bread will yield 4 triangles.)
6) Shallow fry these pieces of bread.
7) Chop the nuts and chocolate for garnishing.
8) In a bowl put the chilled custard, 2-3 pieces of fried bread and garnish with nuts and shredded chocolate.

Shahi tukda is ready to be served. Its a quick dish especially if you dont want to have it chilled and its a new take on the custard we generally have. Try it out, your guests would definitely love it.
