Chocolate Cherry Galette

Absolutely eat dessert first! The thing you want to do the most, DO IT!!
- Joss Whedone

And he is right in every sense. Starting from dessert and coming to life. That's the mantra to follow. You want something, your gut feeling goes with it, its not killing anyone, and you think it will make your life better, make you happier, then don't think anymore, you have answered enough questions, now is the time to do it.

And for me, this entire blogging journey is probably based on this one line. Doing what I like the most, whether it brings back anything to me at all, but giving it my heart and being happy in the entire process. And the part to think more about could be, going on this path lets you discover what you really like and how you want to build your own little space on this earth. Its a full circle starting from your passion and ending there.

With that food for thought, I'll move on to the food part of this post, which is why you are here, ofcourse!

A Chocolate Cherry Galette!! That's what you see down below. You might already know what it is, but for the benefit of those who don't, its a freeform tart made with a sweet or savoury filling baked in a wrapped crust. Fancy much! It truly is. I think its by far the prettiest and easiest dessert I have had.

And ofcourse like all other desserts on my blog, its eggless, doesn't really require expert culinary skills and I have also tried making it healthier for all you calorie conscious folks. I have used whole wheat flour, which has way more nutrition than white/ all purpose flour and I have replaced sugar with Sugar Free and Honey. Its absolutely amazing, and definitely a crowd pleaser.

CHOCOLATE CHERRY GALETTE

INGREDIENTS

For Pastry Base

Whole Wheat Flour
2 cups
Sugar
1 tsp
Salt
Pinch
Unsalted Butter
12 tbsp
Ice Water
½ cup

For Filling

Cherries (Pitted and halved)
4 cups
Powdered Sugar
Alternative: Powdered Sugar Free
¼ cup
Alternative: 2 spoon
(comes with pack)
Cornflour
1 tbsp
Dark Chocolate
½ cup
Almonds (Sliced)
½ cup

METHOD

For Pastry Base

  1. Mix together whole wheat flour, sugar, salt and butter. Pulse or start to knead by hand.
  2. Now slowly keep adding water and knead to make into a soft dough.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for 30 min.
  4. After 30 min, make round balls of this dough and flatten them to make circles (big or small as per your choice, I made a 8inch diameter of circle)
For Filling

  1. Mix cornflour with half a cup of water.
  2. In a bowl mix cherries, lemon juice, sugar, dark chocolate (shredded), almonds and cornflour- water mix and keep aside for 5 min.
  3. Now, fill this in the flattened pastry dough for about 3/4 area of the circle.
  4. Fold the leftover sides on top of the filled area.
  5. Brush the top of the galette sides with butter.
  6. Pre heat the oven at 200C. Bake for 20-25 min or more till the sides turn golden brown in colour. (P.S: If you make smaller galettes, the baking time will also reduce since there is less of filling and crust. So use time and size accordingly.)
Slice and serve. Eggless chocolate cherry galettes are that easy to bake. Make it for your next house party, and people will ask for more.

Happy Eating!
